Neil’s career as a producer and engineer started in the analog tape days of the mid 90s recording EPs for Victoria-based punk and rock bands culminating in the first recorded release by soon to be Warner super stars, Hot Hot Heat. He moved to digital recording and opened his first brick and mortar studio shortly after that in 2003 shifting focus to a much wider variety of artists and original recordings spanning genres from techno and house through to folk and indie rock.
Neil’s recording of Astrocolor's tropical infused album, Paradise, won instrumental Artist of the Year at the 2022 Western Canadian Music Awards. Prior to that his studio production work had also been nominate three times: Weird Party “Mellow Funk” (Instrumental 2015) , Astrocolor “II” (Electronic 2018) and Astrocolor “Hue” (Electronic 2021). He has had the immense pleasure of working with the likes of GRAMMY nominated Count (Tycho, DJ Shadow) and GRAMMY winners Steve Chistensen (Steve Earle, Khruangbin, Leon Bridges) and producer/drummer Ron Thaler (Alicia Keys, David Guetta).
Neil is the owner and operator of Burning Rainbow, the largest recording studio space in Downtown Victoria, BC. He is also a Dj under the monicker NEIL JAM3S, the frontman for Astrocolor , half of the techno duo Righteous Rainbows of Togetherness, and one third of indie rock act Stray Cougar. Neil has played stages from St Louis to Chicago to Montreal to Costa Rica and Burning Man over his 30 year career as a performer.
